Mike Lee it seemed was always attracted to songwriting. Ever since he was a small boy taking guitar lessons he would try to write songs. So I guess it''s no surprise that his first album would be a salute to the people he most admires in the music industry and the personal trials and tribulations that so often accompany their choice of careers.

"When I first started going to Nashville I used to pull off the highway and check in at Shoney''s on Division Street," he states. "It was during one of those early trips when I came out of my hotel room and went to cross the street toward Music Row. A guy came walking down the sidewalk on the other side of the street. I can still see him like it was yesterday. He had on a black cowboy hat, leather jacket, jeans and a pair of western boots. You know, really looked the part. Anyway, he stops, angrily puts the guitar case down, sits on it and holds up a sign that says - WILL WORK FOR FOOD. And that really shook me up. It was my first real dose of the reality of Music Row and the business side of country music. Later that trip I wrote "Me And My Old Guitar" about that guy. I kind of put myself in his place and imagined what he had been through. I decided that was a real good way to come up with new song ideas. To put yourself in another person''s place and try to imagine what they''re going through."

But Mike never thought about trying to write an entire album that way until an acquaintance approached him about doing an album. He explains, "a friend of mine had bought a DAT recorder and was putting a small studio in his basement. So he told me he''d like to do some country and see how it would turn out. We never got around to finishing the project with him but he got my wheels turning, so to speak. Anyway, when I started thinking about it, I figured I may never do this again and since songwriting was always my main passion I knew I didn''t want to put a bunch of random songs on the album. I decided I wanted to try to tell one story with it. So I decided to take "Me And My Old Guitar" and work backwards, more or less, trying to tell one story with ten songs. And that song would be the final one." I originally was just going to write about his love and passion for his craft and the disappointments and trials along the way. But after a while I realized that I couldn''t come up with enough good original song ideas to do an entire album. I mean, writing about things you see and are experiencing is fine. But if you want a lot of people to enjoy it you''ve got to have songs that are also about some things that they can relate to. So I realized then that I had to give him a love life or come up with some sort of metaphor or something."

So where did the "fool" theme come from you might ask? Mike responds, "It''s a very universal topic isn''t it? Being the fool I mean. We all at some time or another do or say something that makes us feel or look foolish, something we later regret. It was also very fertile ground for writing material that also applied very well to the way I was feeling about my songwriting and quest to get published in Nashville. I would write the songs, spend all the money to do demos, for gas, airfare, motel, maybe a rental car and nobody would want to be bothered to listen. It was the most frustrating thing I had ever experienced. That is why I decided to try to do it myself. All I want is a chance to get our songs to the people who might like them and then let the fans decide. Hopefully this album project will do just that."

This album was produced in Nashville by Mike and has seen several tracks get significant radio airplay throughout Europe and Australia (26 nations world-wide).
