In 1995 critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Kevin McKrell met Winfield banjo champion Chris Leske and nationally renowned flatpick guitarist Craig Vance. Kevin McKrell, , Chris Leske and Craig Vance began performing what Tim Farrel of Bluegrass in Review calls " a unique style of music that makes it hard to determine where the Celtic stops and the Bluegrass begins".
The McKrells went on to play Carnegie Hall "... The McKrells Carnegie Hall performance was golden and triumphant. Every solo was met with applause, and every song punctuated with a roar..." They won the prestigious Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival Band Contest, and have shared stages with the top Bluegrass and Celtic performers in the world today, Solas, Altan, Mary Black, Maura O''Connell, The Furey Brothers, Allison Krause, Sam Bush, Francis Black, Allison Brown.

The McKrells were given their own day by their home city of Saratoga Springs and have been honored with the Spirit of Saratoga Award for contributing to the growth of the arts and to the quality of life in Saratoga Springs ,as well as being inducted into the Capitol District Music Hall of Fame.
