Celtic Harmonies is the second effort by the father/daughter singing team of Jim and Holly Lawrence.
Primarily a collection of Irish songs, the LDS link is maintained with Kingsfold, the leadoff tune on the project.
This melody was harmonized by Ralph Vaughn Williams into a hymn, which appears in many hymnals, including our own LDS hymnal. It is also the melody of Star of the County Down.
"Over the Wall" humorously tells of a famous 1971 jailbreak of political detainees at the Crumlin Road jail in Belfast, Ireland. We admire it for its wry, Irish wit.
The family harmony is best exemplified in Scarborough Faire, accompanied by Mary Triola’s splendid harping.
Mark Davis’s fiddle, guitar, and mandolin work shines throughout the project, most notably on The Rakes of Kildare, The Rights of Man, and Sailor''s Hornpipe.
This CD shows Holly’s maturity since Of Gaels and Saints, and nowhere is it better manifested on Skibbereen.
