Details:
Mountain Air, with its refreshing blend of traditional and original songs, is a landmark recording. The album was engineered and mixed by Dave Fridmann in 1989 before his legendary reputation with Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips and as Rolling Stone Magazine''s "Hot Producer." When Mountain Air was first released Vermont Public Radio''s Mark Hauser wrote: “A genuine treasure. Fresh and timeless, full of courage and down to earth richness.” The CD has since been remastered and re-released. Two originals included among the 19 tracks are the intensely evocative title song and Old Green Sweater, which has become a folk standard covered by numerous folk artists.

Dan Berggren’s roots are firmly in the Adirondacks where he was raised but his music has branched out across many borders. The award-winning musician and educator has entertained audiences at festivals, coffeehouses, concert halls, museums, schools and libraries throughout New York State, from Kentucky to Texas, Vermont to Michigan, and overseas in Belgium, Bulgaria, Transylvania and Central Africa.

A tradition-based songsmith, Dan writes with honesty, humor and a strong sense of place. His songs explore the many dimensions of home, hard-working folks, as well as taking care of our planet and each other.

The 30-year folk veteran held various jobs before devoting his life to music full-time: working in the Adirondack woods with a forest ranger and surveyor; radio producer in Europe; professor of audio and radio studies for the State University of New York; and owner of Sleeping Giant Records which has produced thirteen albums.
