Myra Kovary performs as a free-lance harpist with several orchestras in Central New York State including the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble, the Cornell University Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, and the Tri-Cities Opera Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with the Colgate University Orchestra and with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Kovary has played in chamber music ensembles at Ithaca College and at Cornell University, with the Finger Lakes Chamber Ensemble, and with Pro Musica (Ithaca, NY). She played the harp for Sunday Brunch for many years at the Ramada Inn in downtown Ithaca and at Brennan’s Restaurant in Elmira, NY. She has performed for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and also at the United Nations. She currently maintains a private studio in Ithaca, teaching both classical and folk harp.
She completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Theater from Empire State College, SUNY. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University. Ms. Kovary’s harp teachers include Barbara Irish (Ithaca, NY), Alice Chalifoux (former principal harpist of the Cleveland Orchestra), Edna Phillips (former principal harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra), Isabelle Perrin (Co-principal harpist of L’Orchestre National de France, Paris, France), and Karen Lindquist (New York, NY).
Ms. Kovary is also a member of a flute and harp duo with flutist Laura Campbell. They have been playing together at recitals, weddings, and receptions for twenty five years. They recently performed the world premieres of two pieces written for Myra Kovary: “Visions” for flute and harp written by Laurie Conrad and “Images” for flute, violin, viola and harp by Laurie Conrad.
Recital venues have included Ithaca College, Colgate University, Wells College, the Community School of Music and Art, the Presbyterian Church in Ithaca, the Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira, the Tompkins County Public Library, the Groton Public Library, the DeWitt Historical Society, and Kendal at Ithaca.
Ms. Kovary and https://www.tradebit.compbell have recorded two CD’s of music for flute and harp. The first is a recording of light classical music entitled “Morning Light”. The second is entitled “Visions” for flute and harp written by Laurie Conrad. Both CD’s are available from CD Baby and also in stores in Ithaca, NY.
