Details:
Medicine Wind was formed in the mid 90s to play a wedding for the brother of founding member Lucille Jackson (now Lucille Ball). The players (who include Kevin Ball- guitars & vocals, Lucille Ball- rythym guitar & vocals, Bill Conkey- Bass guitar & vocals, Tom Rogers –Harp and our dear departed friend Mark Hendley- Drums) enjoyed themselves so much they decided to give the local club scene a shot and by 1998 they were a staple at venues all over the Washington D.C. area.
Spearheaded by the blues tinged guitar and writing style of Kevin Ball ,the group quickly became known for airtight harmonies, outstanding musicianship and an energetic stage presence .
In 1999 they recorded and released their first studio album entitled “Bathed in the Light” offered here for your enjoyment. All songs were written by Kevin (except “ Come On” which was written by the great Earl King) and feature guest artist’ like Mike Ault (D.C. legend and guitarist for the “ Paul Reed Smith Band”) and Pat Smith (keyboardist extraordinaire and composer of the “Americas Most Wanted” soundtrack)
There is something for everyone on this compilation from the soaring Santana inspired instrumental “Compasion’,The Eagle-esque writing style and massive harmonies of “The Girl gets Lonely Too” and Kevin’s personal favorite- the ready for airplay “Slipped through My Fingers”
The only advice this writer can offer while listening to this music is -PLAY IT LOUD!
