Details:
"Heather Report Bahia vol 1" is a long envisioned dream of veteran vocalist Heather Davis, a cross cultural expression of her years of passion for Brazilian music. Originally from "Motown" (Detroit, MI.), giving her strong musical roots, she began her career focusing mainly on jazz and blues. A move to San Francisco, CA., opened the doors to the culture, people, dance, and most importantly, the music of Brazil, and her journey began.
This particular recording is the result of a series of seemingly magical connections and reconnections. Heather had previously collaborated with pianist Jovino Santos Neto on two recordings, (Check the Beans, 1999 & Brazilfest Key West, 2001) Jovino is from Rio De Janeiro, currently resides in Seattle WA., and he was thrilled with the idea of recording in Bahia, Brazil, where Heather has a second home, and he got in touch with his long time friend guitarist Luiz Brasil. Heather had met Fernando Nunes and Cesinha (bass & drums) many years earlier while they were touring with Ivan Lins. She always dreamed of doing a project with them and now was her chance. The arrangements were made, the repertoire selected and the band spent four amazing days recording at "Planeta Agua", the studio / pousada of the great composer Guilherme Arantes, who engineered the sessions along with his son Pedro. The result is a soulful blend of timeless classics, sung both in english and Portuguese, all with a distinctive flavor of Bahia. This record features:*-
