WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING.....
"She [Shaynee] triumphs. Her voice is simply sensational...Often, listening to the album feels like hearing a long-lost jazz-pop masterpiece from the 1950s, the great album you never heard of, bursting to thawed, awed life from a well-preserved time capsule. In fact, the album feels modern in a way and certainly not entrenched in nostalgia to feel at all out of date or like a relic. But it embraces the past as much as it embraces the talent of its musical icon....This CD is something to revel in, and repeated listenings over time suggest it''s going to be one of those that will be pulled out often and pull you in to an atmosphere that is, to quote a title of one of its many marvelous cuts, "Warm and Wonderful." Rob Lester, Talkin Broadway
"When Shaynee Rainbolt navigates the shoals of Russ Garcia''s Tombone-laden arrangements, a beautiful artistic union forms -- that of an emerging voice and an orchestral master." Kirk Silsbee, Downbeat
"Shaynee Rainbolt''s charm and beautiful, warm voice captures the essence of Garcia''s music...exhilarating. A terrific collaboration!" Bob Comden, LA Jazz Scene
"When Shaynee sings "When I First Saw You," the love theme from Atlantis: The Lost Continent, she phrases like the great Cleo Laine and soars all over the octaves. "Flyin'' Free" is a song that Garcia wrote at Count Basie''s request. With great piano work by O''Rourke, Shaynee scats and bops with the trombones of Kaplan, Holtman, and Otto with jazz chops that remind you of O''Day and Christy and Chris Connor at their peaks with Kenton. The musical direction and arrangements by Garcia and the superb vocal work by Rainbolt make this pop jazz album of the year." Joe Regan, Jr.

Still working regularly, at 92, Garcia’s life is far from the glamorous world of Hollywood he used to inhabit. However, he has been active in every area of the entertainment world – from radio and television to theatrical films and recordings – since the late ‘40s. His early ‘60s scores for George Pal’s “The Time Machine” and “Atlantis, the Lost Continent” virtually created the music template for the many science fiction films that followed. His jazz arranging and composing can be heard on recordings by Stan Kenton, Roy Eldridge, Stan Getz, as well as a classic version of “Porgy and Bess” featuring Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. When trying to describe the orchestral sounds that emerged from the West Coast jazz scene during the ‘50s, the name Russ Garcia always comes to mind. Not only did he provide arrangements for many singers and instrumentalists, he recorded over 60 albums under his own name. As if all that wasn’t enough, his book, “The Professional Arranger-Composer,” has been a valued tool for both beginners and veterans since it was written in the mid-‘40s.
Always an innovator, Russ Garcia is a living legend, and his music deserves to be heard by a new generation. His unexpected and groundbreaking Four-Trombone Band with famed brass players Frank Rosolino, Tommy Pederson, Maynard Ferguson and Herbie Harper led him to use this instrumentation to great success in collaborations with singers Frances Faye and Anita O''Day, and he now brings it back to us in his most recent collaboration with singer Shaynee Rainbolt. Having arranged for Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Anita O''Day, Mel Torme, Julie London, Oscar Peterson, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Andy Williams, Judy Garland and Henry Mancini – just to name a few – he has chosen to entrust his originals to Shaynee Rainbolt, one of the rising stars singing jazz and standards today. Russ and his wife (and frequent lyricist) Gina were so impressed that they are quick to say, “You may not know who Shaynee is now, but you will.” Together, they have created this historic recording of all Russ Garcia originals, and the welcome return of the Russ Garcia Four-Trombone Band.
Now, it is time to listen to the music of Russ Garcia. The music, like the man, is timeless.
