Details:
Gerry Griffin is an uncommon artist and human being. He is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He is a world class musician whose hard earned authenticity can be heard in every note. His music has been described as "folk and blues based with a rock spirit and a world view". He calls it “music for humans … and other people.”
Griffin''s songs are intensely poetic and presented in a dramatic and highly original musical style. His material ranges from insightful observations of life, its eccentricities and its humour, to tender songs of love and relationships, separation and loss.
Griffin''s insightful lyrical observations are supported by an esoteric melding of musical styles and influences: folk, country, blues, rock, celtic, and elements of North African music.
Two and a half years of wrongful incarceration in the North African and Spanish prison system in the early 1990''s gave the Canadian singer/songwriter plenty of material to work with and lots of time to write some of his most powerful lyrics and songs. Many of the songs written during this harrowing time speak uniquely about the universal yearning for loved ones; inmates from Senegal, Morocco and Spain would sing and drum along, contributing to the final version of many of Gerry''s tunes.
"Hour Glass" is Griffin''s first album and was recorded "live off the floor" at Lakeside Studios in Clayton, Ontario, in July of 1995. The CD was released in 1996.
The album was produced by Jeffrey Lesser who has worked with Lou Reed, The Chieftains with Sting and Sinead O''Connor, The Chieftains with Los Lobos and Linda Ronstadt, and Barbra Streisand.
