Details:
After having been an insider tip for the past three years and having gained a high reputation in the dutch music scene, 2008 will be the year The Amsterdam Headliners will step forward and finally present their music to a much broader audience. The recipe of this young band is creating music in the state of mind of groundbreaking famous bands from the 70’ies (like Sly & the Family Stone, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, The Headhunters etc.) and translating that spirit into making authentic and original music of today.
In the year 2007 The Headliners worked intensively on writing new material and thereby bringing up front the individual personalities of the band members. The results are warm, colorful, contemporary funk and soul driven songs led by an unmistakable, soulful voice, and propelled by a heavy weight groove rhythm section. The Headliners have found their own distinctive musical language. As they often give instrumental parts an equally important role as the vocals, their music and lyrics compliment each other and turn out in strong personal statements. Their music is best documented on their Prerelease CD Thank you.
It all started in 2005 when drummer Klaas van Donkersgoed took the initiative to build a band on his own. He thought carefully about bringing musicians together who would once being combined create something unique and new. It was soon clear to everyone in this band that the chemistry of those musicians was something special. They grew to a group of friends, in which every one of the five members found his own significant, irreplaceable role in the band.
The unique combination of individually highly versatile musicians emerges live in soulful, energetic, undoubtedly solid and yet spontaneous and playful performances, displaying all of the contagious joy and deepness live music can offer.
Starting performing in small cafes in Amsterdam (especially café alto, which became their “hometown”) often playing 5 hours in a row The Amsterdam Headliners established their reputation of being an exceptional live band with high potential. They performed on venues like Dox Family Night, Wicked Jazz Sounds, Jazz Festival Bergen aan Zee and gave their debut in Paradiso in June 2008.
