Details:
K. Lo Flo was born as Kristie Logan in Baltimore, Maryland. She began writing poetry at age thirteen. Poetry has always been her means of escaping the harsh realities of her life. In 2004, her parents divorced complicating her relationship with both of them (but especially with her mother). She came out to them as a lesbian in April of 2008. Two months earlier she met her girlfriend, the inspiration for all of the love poetry on her album Resisting Our Existence.

Even though K. Lo Flo has been writing poetry since thirteen, she did not begin writing spoken word poetry (poetry to be performed) until April of 2007. The shift in her writing occurred after visiting The Art of Conversation, an open mic in Baltimore. After leaving the open mic she began writing a spoken word poem in the car on the way home. This poem was entitled "Me Again" and was written to give voice to under-appreciated lovers. After writing this poem she began to delve deep inside of her innermost thoughts and emotions to write poetry from her own personal experiences. The next poems to come were "Baltimore" and "Good Enough".

The recording process for the album took a year due to school and school related activities monopolizing K. Lo Flo''s time; however the poetry on the album is a product of her experiences which span her lifetime. Before embarking on the journey of recording an album her main goal was to simply be heard. The same month she began writing spoken word poetry she also signed-up for her first open mic (The Art of Conversation). She was well received by the listeners and began to frequent more open mics. By doing so she began to network and meet professional poets from Baltimore. The host of the Art Of Conversation, E the poet-emcee, offered to produce K. Lo Flo''s album. She took him up on the offer and began recording July of 2007.

The album is an eclectic collection of poems ranging from introspective pieces to reflections of society to pieces based in love. Most of the poems are accompanied by the melodies of E the poet-emcee. The three short poems are accompanied by K. Lo Flo playing the guitar. "Exhale With Ink" and "This Is Your Brain" were produced by Flying Club, a producer from the UK K. Lo Flo connected with through the myspace network. The album also features the vocal stylings of Karron Johnson and a beat from the Beastie Boys as well as a melody of Paul McCartney.

K. Lo Flo is most strongly influenced by life, music and the city of Baltimore. Some of her musical and poetic inspirations include the artists Komplex, E the poet-emcee, JaHipster, LOVE the poet, the 5th L, Olu Butterfly, Slangston Hughes, Talaam Acey, Archie the Messenger, Lyrical the Lyricist, Rebecca Dupas, Temple, Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, J Dilla, RZA, Talib Kweli, Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, William Carlos Williams, Common, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Adrienne Rich, Jill Scott, and The Roots.
