Welcome to the CDBaby’s music page for Zoe Cassotis! Her first CD, “Debut”, contains an interesting collection of solo piano music, ranging from blues to classical jazz to intense romanticism to sentimental.
Ms. Cassotis was born in Greenwich Village in New York City. When she was two, her family decided to move to the quiet suburbs of Northern New Jersey; she currently resides in Northern New Jersey.
Zoe started music lessons at young age. Beginning at age 10, she began entering county and eventually statewide piano competitions, often placing either first or second place in her age group. At 16, as one of the finalists in the Russell E Lanning Memorial competition, she and the other winners were awarded a recital at CAMI Hall, in New York City.
During her college tenure at Cornell University, Zoe earned two degrees in Applied and Engineering Physics. However, she maintained a steady level of practice, using her piano skills to earn money playing for hungry college students during Sunday brunches at the main dining hall.
After graduation, she was fortunate to meet a well respected and renowned NJ based piano instructor, Manfred d’Elia. His old fashioned charm, reflective but unpretentious artistry and low-key style greatly influenced her approach to music. Mr. d’Elia served as Zoe’s mentor for well over nine years until his passing in 2000, encouraging her to prepare solo piano recitals in local venues. To date, she has performed 14 distinct piano recital programs, that have included well-known classical war horse standards, baroque pieces, classical jazz pieces (such as Rhapsody in Blue), obscure modern Italian pieces and little performed piano transcriptions.
If you enjoy “Debut”, please keep an eye out for Ms. Cassotis’ second CD, which will be available sometime in the autumn of 2008.
