Details:
Long Island native Naomi Rabinowitz was born with music in her blood. Her mother is a pianist, her father plays guitar and her grandfather played violin. She was also influenced by her late, great uncle Sid Robin, a composer and writer best known for penning the lyrics for Elvis''s hit "Just Because," as well as the jazz standard "Undecided." Though her most vivid memories of her uncle are when she learned to swim in his backyard pool, she grew up hearing all about his successful career. The band even played "Undecided" during her wedding.

As for Naomi''s musical journey, her mother began teaching her piano when she was just 3 years old. When she was 9, Naomi switched over to classical flute, mainly because she enjoyed being the only woodwind player in the family. She almost quit the instrument the next year, but her parents encouraged her to stick with it.

In high school, she joined the jazz ensemble, where she dabbled in tenor sax and clarinet. She was also a member of the wind ensemble, orchestra, pit orchestra and all-county band. Outside of school, she played with the Suffolk County Chamber Music Association and the Bay Area Friends Of The Fine Arts orchestra. She studied flute privately with Barbara Norpoth.

After graduating high school, Naomi attended SUNY Binghamton, where she majored in English. Most of her time, however, was spent in the music building. In addition to being a member of the wind ensemble, orchestra and jazz ensemble, she studied saxophone privately with Albert Hamme. During the summers of her freshman and sophomore years, Naomi taught music at Camp Ballibay in PA and Camp Ivy League on Long Island -- and learned that getting kids to appreciate music could be more difficult than mastering a challenging piece on flute!

Naomi went on to obtain her Master''s degree in journalism at Syracuse University, but continued playing with the wind ensemble in grad school. She is currently a full-time writer but performs with the band Isabel And The Whispers. FLUTE PATH is Naomi''s first full-length CD. When putting it together, she decided to follow in her uncle''s footsteps and compose her own songs. She also does double duty on the CD, playing the flute and keyboards. However, the project truly came together when she was joined by Stephen Hund on drums and Isabel Rivera on guitar, and had it produced at Uptime Studios in NYC.
