karmafarm (Steven Sauve) has been composing music in the electronic domain for over 20 years. In addition to writing for video and television, he has also created music for gallery installations, CD-ROM and X-Box games. karmafarm is also a regular performer in the Ambient Ping series of improvised electronic music in Toronto Canada. And he has performed in Berlin and Dresden with Bob Rutman.
The concept of karmafarm was created in 1998, when the composer acquired a virtual modular synthesis system. The Nord Modular was ideally suited to the construction of self-playing patches. These ''living'' patches spontaneously create music according to settings designed by the composer ahead of time. Sometimes the result is unpredictable and quite abstract. Sometimes the sounds coming out resemble real melodic lines, performed by a real player. The magic is in listening to the ''random'' results of a system.
