The inspiration behind Paul''s music is breathtaking to say the least. Born to a Yorkshire family in 1969, he led a pretty typical, non-descript life interrupted by the challenge of divorce after his parents split when he was 16. Influences at that time led Paul down a road which could have ended in rack and ruin, when out of the blue he heard a song playing in his head, so clearly it was as if he was listening to a complete piece of music - lyrics, instruments - the whole shebang! On realising it was a song he had never heard before he could only assume he had made it up himself.
At that time, Paul didn''t play any musical instruments so he went out and bought his first keyboard for £200 and taught himself to play the music playing in his head. Once he''d cracked that, all he needed was a band, and it wasn''t long before his enthusiasm drew other musicians to him like a magnet and they dreamt about a number one hit with the associated pop star lifestyle.
In 1991 the band were approached by someone keen to manage them. He was a Christian and wanted to lead the band to Jesus. Paul and the band resisted heavily, but then decided that God might be the best chance of a record deal!
From that moment everything changed. God asked Paul to re-prioritise his life. Within a month the band had split up and Paul found himself alone with only his new found faith in Jesus intact. His vision of an exciting future was in tatters. Unable to write music that touched his soul, he felt that his gift had been silenced and fell into a miserable pit of despair.
On reaching this, the lowest point in Paul''s life, God led him to a scripture and gave a vision of a new future. It was a vision brighter and better than before, of music for His glory, not for personal gratification. Paul had been presented with a glorious gift, but this was just the beginning.
Paul''s next gift was delivered via his local church where a young lady who also worshipped there was to become his future wife. God revealed this to Paul before he had ever taken Sarah out on a date and he describes it as feeling "like one of the characters in the Bugs Bunny cartoons when they see a pretty female, such was God''s response. I couldn''t get the silly smile off my face. Sarah knew I was for her when she asked God for a confirmation. ''Let Paul ring me now'' she prayed, right before I called."
They married shortly after and their gifts continued with the birth of their beautiful daughters Rachel, Lauren and Abby-Lynn.
When the worship leader at their church left and the replacement failed to show up, Paul and Sarah found themselves naturally performing the role. In 1994 a man visited the church that was so full of the Holy Spirit that he glowed with it and Paul, who had never experienced such a sensation, desired to be as filled. For several mornings he met God with such a devout hunger that God responded powerfully and beautifully. He could feel the presence of God tangibly on his hands and face and felt blessed with his gifts.
Several days later after a powerfully anointed church meeting, he could still feel God''s presence all around him, and he heard a small voice whisper, ''it will never leave''... and to this day it never has. Paul still feels His presence today and it gets stronger day by day.
As a worship leader Paul was taught by the Holy Spirit to minister in meetings through a connection they had with some close friends who ministered powerfully in the gift of prophetic healing and deliverance. Although a controversial area for many, the transformations achieved in the authority of the name of Jesus Christ, meant that Paul stopped questioning why and instead accepted God''s love. "I learned that hearing the Holy Spirit''s voice and obeying His lead could increase the impact in these meetings. The experience taught me to listen closely and be sensitive." describes Paul
During the subsequent years he was fortunate to lead worship with a number of ministries including the International Connections and Capital Network meetings under the Apostleship of the much loved Philip Mohabir
In 2001 the Lord moved Paul and Sarah out of their first church to link with some great friends and their family adopting a house-church family-based model. It was a fantastic time of revival, refreshingly shifting perspectives, but meant they withdrew from the more public service to other ministries. Paul continued to write songs over the years, but had lost the urgency to produce records, mainly because he had lost the urge to become a superstar!
In Jan 2008 God called upon Paul and Sarah to once again move out in ministry to the wider body of Christ. Their first assignment was at a service in London led by Teresa Conlon. During this meeting Paul felt the anointing and impact on his ministry had progressed to a new level. He played music he had written and when he led worship people said they felt something different. They asked Paul where they could buy his CD... what CD!
Shortly after this, Paul was given a prophetic word to create his CD and not procrastinate any longer. Reacting to God''s will, he felt determined to make it happen, to do it properly and to do it well.
Having booked the studio, Paul was unsure where to find the right musicians. He need not have worried. God provided some talented individuals, many of whom Paul hadn''t known previously. The studio time was filled with God''s presence and with worship. The engineer was supernaturally healed of gout after Paul led prayer for his leg and there were many other miraculous ''co-incidences''. It was breathtaking.
