Like many other musicians my age, I bought my first guitar at the fine and dime at 13 years old. I started playing Southern California beaches and up and down the west coast until I was old enough to play in clubs as long as I didn''t drink. A few people that I have played on the same shows with were Linda Rondstat, The Boys, The Steve Miller Band ( that was the concert "Tin Cup Races" in Olympia, Washington in the early ''70''s). The Youngbloods were there, Flash Caddilac was there. I was the founder of the Johnathan Davis Trio and we played the last day at 3:00 in the after noon prime-time. It was great, I met many people in the biz. I was back stage all the time and we did a lot of music around the campfire after midight when the concert stopped it was a four day adventure.
Steve Miller sent someone to get me from my backstage motor home. He was gonna jam in the back tent/bar and wanted me to jam with him. I said I would try to get there as soon as I could because at the time with the most beautiful red head I ever saw. By the time I was ready to go and I got back to the tent, it was it was standing room only and the room was filled with the sent of Opium and weed. I walked in and waved and got stoned and missed it. I apologized later. After the concert, I went and played the San Fransisco/ Bay area. I went and talked to the band Jefferson Starship about some recording we wanted to do, but we were off to L.A. to do a TV show with the Rolling Stones'' songwriter, Spooner Oldham and met Joan Biaz. Her husband was on the show. I didn''t know he was there. Naturally, I asked her out for lunch... oops... when he was standing right behind me. I always loved her haha... But I had to apologize to him. The show went well. It played all over the local L.A. area and then it went national. After that I played KMET live on the air. As far as I know to this day, we were the only group to ever play live there. In the meantime, we were doing demo''s at Fat Chance Studios, Columbia Studios and Paramount Studios. It just so happened, when we were doing a session at Paramount, in walked Frank Zappa and his whole family. He was recording "300 Hotels" in the bigger studio and we had the chance to meet his whole family. He was still on crutches and in a cast from his motorcycle wreck. It was fun meeting him and getting the chance to visit.
I hope you like my music. I''ll have more coming your way soon.
