Details:
Imagistic, lyrical, early songs by Jack DuMez recorded at Orchard Park Acoustic Barn in Ovid, New York, by Scott B. Adams. These songs were recorded live -- all in one shot with no overdubbing or fancy production flourishes. Simple, tender, reflective songs which invite listeners to worship and to meditate.

A great album for settling down and hearing the quiet Spirit seeking each of us out.

BIOGRAPHY
Jack Du Mez''s mix of original acoustic rock and driving new folk music has earned him rapport with venues across the northern United States. Du Mez has performed in top notch venues including the historic Caffê Lena in Saratoga Springs, New York -- early home to Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Don McClean. After playing the open mic at Lena''s, Du Mez was invited to open for Compass Records® recording artist Pierce Pettis (who wrote Garth Brook''s top ten hit "You Move Me"). Du Mez''s impressive performance prompted Lena''s to offer him his own show and invite him to perform as a "rising star" for their Homecoming Weekend. Subsequently, Du Mez has been invited to play in regional concerts, private parties, schools, and coffee houses across the northeastern United States and in Canada.

Du Mez''s sound is as varied as it is entertaining. His dynamic tenor voice creates soaring, textured melodies woven from influences such as early U2 and R.E.M. and also supports rich, gentle tones reminiscent of John Mayer and James Taylor. Toronto-based recording artist Ember Swift noted, "His voice stops you in your tracks."

His intuitive rhythm guitar work is equally engaging, ranging from straight rock to traditional folk finger-picking, and his mix of digitally effected riffs and crisp acoustic melodies allows for a show both lively and intimate. As Lena''s house manager, Sarah Craig, said, "We rarely present opening acts . . . but Jack stood out in the crowd in a big way."

Reflecting his debt to songwriters such as Bruce Cockburn, Leonard Cohen, Rich Mullins and Keith Green, Du Mez composes songs which are lyric-based, intelligent, and hopeful. Du Mez''s stage presence is at once disarming and inviting, stemming from his confidence in his music and his message. Adding old favorites to his repertoire of original, energetic music, Du Mez''s shows can range from point-blank spiritual reflection to grooving pop-rock, suitable for an intimate coffee house or a pulsing youth assembly.

Like many independent artists, Du Mez has begun to develop a niche audience who waits for repeat performances and spreads their enthusiasm through word of mouth and underground connections. Remaining independent allows Du Mez to continue to write probing lyrics outside of the reach of many pop artists.

Even though he has only been performing for a few years, Du Mez has been invited to play at events across the Midwest and Northeast. He has already made a name for himself at America''s oldest running coffee house, and is earning a reputation as a prophetic young voice in modern folk music.

REVIEWS / RECOMMENDATIONS / QUOTES

Jack Du Mez collects people''s most powerful and intimate stories, sets them to driving melodies, and finds just the right words and angles to let listeners hear, in one brilliant flashing moment, the power and intensity of the tale. He stands on stage with his heart wide open and with his warmth, smile, and intelligence, opens the hearts of all who listen. And let me also say that he sings beautifully.
Sarah Craig (Manager, Caffè Lena; Saratoga Springs, New York)

I consider it a great privilege to count Jack Du Mez among our artists in residence . . . he is an extraordinarily gifted young singer/songwriter. Whenever Jack sings, whether in church or at a local coffeehouse, I inevitably respond both emotionally and intellectually to his unique blend of poetry, faith, and music. His genuine presence, appealing melodies and thoughtful lyrics invite the listener into his hopeful and hope-filled world . . . a world well worth visiting.
Rev. Bruce K. Cornwell (Pastor, Community Reformed Church of Colonie; Colonie, New York)

Du Mez mixes the textured sounds of contemporary folk with exceptional melodies and challenging lyrics. His performances reveal in him a spirit deeply connected to his journey with God.
Brother James Martino, FSC (Assistant Associate Executive Director, LaSalle School; Albany, New York; former President, LaSalle School; New York, New York)

Jack Du Mez''s music is rich both in lyrics and style. Creating images from the roots of his Christian faith, Jack allows faith, hope, beauty, and love to blossom in the songs he presents to his listeners. His music is not content with easy answers nor with Christian jargon. His songs challenge the listener to dig deep into his or her self and touch the angel/beast in all of us.
Rev. Kent Busman (Director, Fowler Camp and Retreat Center; Speculator, New York)

His music . . . is somewhere between contemporary and contemplative.
Dr. Les Kuiper (Pastor, Oostburg Christian Reformed Church; Oostburg, Wisconsin)

His programs were very appropriate for the different grade levels. The two programs combined the celebration of the Christian life, thoughtfulness and excellent musicianship. (He) connected . . . .
Robert Wiers, (Principal, Milwaukee Christian School; Brookfield, Wisconsin)

Your songs were fresh, compelling, and relevant.
Gary Meyer (Teacher, Chicago Christian School; Palos Heights, Illinois)

I must share with you that I am having a hard time getting to listen to your CD. No not because I am to busy but because my children love to listen to it at night as they are going to sleep. I was very happy to have my fifteen year old son ask me for it so he could listen to it as he went to sleep. My daughter used it to take to school. She likes to listen to it on the bus. I am so pleased. Thank you for your music that I sure many people are enjoying as much as we are.
Terry Z. (Fan; Glen, New York)

Whew! I was moved! Seeing 400+ kids having such a good time in good Christian fellowship truly gives me hope for the future of the human
race!
Jack, your music ..... what can I say?! Those kids loved you! Heck,
we all love you. My internal applause meter said you were the star of the event.
And you know it wasn''t just those who remember you from Fowler. I personally like both electric and acoustic but your electric pieces had me dancing behind the camera. I''m talking to Dale about using your music as background for the Spectrum Highlights Video.
Oh well, I''m sure you''re tired as most of us are. Get a well-deserved
Rest and drop me an e-mail whenever you get a chance.
Bill P. (Fan/Cameraman; Colonie, New York)

I just finished listening to Live at Lena''s and I loved it. I just wanted to express to you the impact your presence at Spectrum had on me. I don''t think you could understand, nor could I explain to you, what this meant to me. . . .
Any way, seeing you this weekend helped renew my spirit. I was deeply moved by the whole conference and I look forward to the next similar occasion. I hope to see you again.
Elizabeth B. (Fan, Spectrum Youth Conference; Kerhonkson, New York)

Both of your CDs are wonderful! I really enjoy the music; you have an awesome gift.
Your songs are very inspiring and I can''t wait to hear more! I hope that all is well in Indiana. I can''t wait till you come on tour in the east!
Christina M. (Fan; Syracuse, New York)

I met Jack while coordinating a benefit concert for a Christian school. Jack had said he wanted to wait until after he arrived at the venue to choose the music he would perform, to give him a chance to get a feel for the crowd. Sure enough, he opened with a song that reflected a Bible verse on the cover of the event program, customizing his performance to the mood and theme of the concert. He stood during most of his songs, connecting with his audience in an energetic and personal way. He truly sang for the audience and tried to make the night theirs to enjoy. I would recommend him as someone who can bring in a crowd and then deliver, never disappointing.
Barb Flatoff (Fundraising Coordinator / Concert Promoter; Oostburg, Wisconsin)

Thank you so much for the CDs! I absolutely love them! I would tell you my favorite songs, but I''d have to pick over half them. You truly do have a talent. The lyrics are real and powerful and I think that is awesome. Those are the types of music that you feel were written just for you at times.

Thank you for your ministry to us, and to me. I truly enjoyed your music and messages. May all be touched and blessed through you.
Don C. (Fan, First Baptist Church, Lansing, Michigan)

You have beautiful lyrics. If anything, they were what impressed me the most. You seem to have a very LIVE faith. Your stories were very real! You''ve got stage presence -- and this is coming from a theater major. It was a pleasure to have you -- God Bless.
Emily (Fan, Redeemer College; Ancaster, Ontario, Canada)

Thanks, Jack, for a wonderful concert. You have the ability to get into other people''s shoes. Your lyrics are strong and solidly flow from your faith. Vocally and musically in general you nuance your songs so well to mirror moods and meanings.
Marnie G.. (Fan, Redeemer College; Ancaster, Ontario, Canada)
