Details:
When John Armstrong was ten years old and growing up in Nashville, his salesman father was trying to create new territory in Knoxville,TN a three hour drive away. So every Friday evening Mom, Dad and John would pile into the family car and hit the road. Saturday nights would find the family driving back to make to church on Sunday.
These were the days of AM radio, so every Friday and Saturday night was a three hour session with the Grand Ole Opry. Sunday mornings would find Dad the first one ready so he would sit on the couch, playing and singing “Unclouded Day”, “Wreck of the Old 97” and “Gone Home”.
When John was a teenager his parents prayed because he spent too much time in his room playing the guitar. Growing his hair, and listening to Poco, Crosby Stills and Nash, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. John took the melodies and feelings of the music he grew up with and began to write, signing his first song contract with a publisher at age 17.
Since then, John has spent his time playing in churches, prisons, jails and the writers clubs in Nashville. One of his projects “Baby Brother Jesus” has been performed worldwide to enthusiastic audiences.
John says, “Music is God’s language, emotion contained in structure, the perfect union of the physical and spiritual”. “Stone” is the product of his desire to create accessible, in your face, acoustic music that says “God loves you, Jesus died for you and there is hope”
