The gifts in our lives -- those who come into our lives to bless us, enrich us, teach us -- like the faces in the crashing waves -- are God-sent. -- Babette Allen
Friends of Mark O''Connor''s Fiddle Camps and Conferences will certainly recognize the names of the musicians on this cd -- Hans Holzen (guitar), Tom Holzen (guitar), Kyle Kegerreis (bass), Matt Combs (mandolin) and Billy Contreras (violin). The vocals were beautifully done by Allie and Zoe Cunningham who have been students at the String Conference for several years. Although I didn''t meet drummer Dave Racine at fiddle camp, I met him because of those I met there. All of these musicians were great and I really appreciate and am thankful for what they did.
Special recognition does need to go to Hans Holzen who is phenomenal. Just wait until you hear his work on this cd!
Randy Elmore, whom I also met at fiddle camp my first time there in 1996, wrote Rayna''s Waltz for me. I can’t thank you enough Randy! I was also thrilled to be able to put Whistler''s Waltz on here, which he also wrote.
One of the reasons I grew up loving music was because of my dad, Lloyd Allen, who played piano in San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area. It was playing with him that I learned the standards Stardust, Embraceable You, Lazy River, Someone to Watch Over Me, and many, many others.
So for me to begin this cd with Simple Gifts was an easy choice. Wally Cunningham asked me to play it a few years ago. It really set in motion for me what pieces needed to be included here and what a blessing each person connected with this project has been.
And lastly, I wanted to end this cd with my thought for you -- Let There Be Peace on Earth.
