Details:
Sancocho is a fusion of Bomba,Plena, Spoken word and rap.
Nelson Baez, who is a drummer for the New Jersey Bomba & Plena group Segunda Quimbamba, came together with poet and Hip-Hop producer El David to create a sound coined by El David "Roots in Concrete" or R&C. El David first created the R&C sound in 1999 when he began mixing hip hop sounds over Bomba Drums. in 2000 he recorded the first R&C LP with a group he formed called Familia Ache. This sound blends urban lyrics and sounds with the percussive drums of Puerto Rico and Africa. The song "Roots in Concrete" in the Sancocho album best exemplifies this genre.
Bomba is one of the ancestors of Hip-Hop, so it is fitting that the two come together. This album Also contains traditional Bomba and Latin songs like "Campo", "Agua Que Va Caer" and "No Lloren Por Mi". Each songs tells a story to, or paints a picture of, love, life, fun, pain, struggle and revolution.
This album is a melting pot of culture.
