Details:
Mama Brew is a self-proclaimed “Trash Rock” band hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This foul-mouthed three-piece is kind of like your obnoxious uncle- loud, offensive and a drunken riot. More conventional critics have described their sound as a shot of punk, a hit of blue grass, a heavy dose of rock and a sense of humor.
The Brew was born when three assholes decided to get wasted and write a couple of songs in July of 2005. The two day session in bassist Sandy Swagger’s shitty apartment yielded several classic Brew tunes. The first, Orsen Wells is Fat, is a hard rocker that opens with the blaring guitar of Cornelious de Groot and features the filthy vocals and distorted blues-harp of front man “Liquid” Glen Challenger. After polishing off another song and a bottle of whiskey the group’s country twang started to show when they penned the drunken hick ballad I Killed a Deer for a Beer.
Over the next two years the Brew played basement shows, parties and open-mic nights while they refined their sound and expanded their repertoire. Their formula was simple- get tanked, write a song about a ridiculous topic, and record it (usually all in one night.) Song topics included pirates, cunts, porn and sandwiches.
In the summer of 2007 the band decided to finally record their long awaited debut, The Sound that Rocks your Stash. The album contains re-recorded versions of the early material with new songs about hicks, trash and the fabled chupacabra. The release was recorded and produced by bassist Swaggers at the Father Devine Record Compound in North Philadelphia. Nearly a year and countless liquor bottles after its conception, The Sound that Rocks your Stash is available on indie label Father Devine Records. Mama Brew plans to continue offending while promoting their release at home and abroad.
