Details:
“Nashville Sings Christian Country” is the second CD of songs written by Marshall Clary and the first CD of Marshall’s songs recorded in Nashville, TN.

The artists on this CD include established stars of the Grand Ole Op’ry along with a few new Nashville-based artists. The studio musicians who accompany the vocal artists include some of the most sought-after country musicians in Nashville. Some of these musicians have accompanied mega-artists such as Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, and others when they recorded some of their biggest hits.

All of the lyrics and music for the songs on this CD were written by Marshall Clary except for one song, “Jesus, Do You Really Care?” The music for that song was written by Marshall’s son, Erik M. Clary, who then asked his Dad to write the lyrics.

The COPYRIGHT for each song on this CD is owned by Marshall D. Clary.

This “Nashville Sings Christian Country” CD was recorded on Music Row in Nashville, TN in 1992. The songs on the CD were written over many years as Marshall pursued a career in computer systems, corporate management, and entrepreneurial business with no intent to ever have his songs recorded and released.

As the years passed, Marshall’s stack of songs remained in his head or in rough notes in his piano bench.

Many of the songs that Marshall writes emerge from life experiences, from personal relationships, or from his faith in Jesus Christ and God’s Word. Most of them were written when an idea, a chord, a musical riff, or a lyrical phrase somehow came to mind and spawned a creative spark that became a melody and a lyric.

Upon early retirement, Marshall set a goal of having his songs recorded and released, even though they had been around for years without having been played or sung for anybody else.

The song that took the longest to write was “Having You With Me” that began on an airplane returning from a civilian job in South Vietnam during the war there in 1968. The first verse for this song was written in Marshall’s head as he stared out the window at the Philippine Islands far below. It remained untouched in his head for 20 years until he finally wrote a second and third verse for this song. After 22 years this song was performed by two different artists on two of Marshall’s CDs. The first version of this song was performed by Mike Shell and was called “Planes Can Fly.” It was included in Marshall’s first CD that is titled: “Christian Country.” The second performance of this song was performed by Stu Phillips and was renamed “Having You With Me.” It is included in this current “Nashville Sings Christian Country” CD. After 23 years, Marshall again revised the song by writing a bridge section for it and having it re-recorded by Stu Phillips for Marshall’s third CD entitled: “Don’t Give Up On Me.” Now, many years later, this secular song has reared its head again, as some folks have found it to be comforting during periods of terminal illness and after periods in which they drifted away from following God’s Word. As a result, Marshall has now written a Christian Country version of this song, with very minor changes to the secular lyrics. This Christian version of this song is being performed in Krakow, Poland by Marshall in July 2008 during a Mission Trip there.

Marshall says that the reason that “Having You With Me” took so long to write was that it deals with a life lesson that took a long time for him to learn. Sometimes when we chase our dreams and our goals, we leave behind the things that matter most. This is true in our personal life. It is also true in our spiritual life.

Frequently, inspiration and ideas for songs come during times of personal, business, or spiritual fatigue and stress. Music that comes from within when there is no motive, no schedule, and no one listening is honest stuff that can help heal hurts, calm emotions, and bring what you really feel to the surface.

Having these songs recorded by such great artists is a songwriter’s dream. The main thing for a songwriter is the music. It’s not the financial results. It’s the music. It is a wonderful thing to hear your songs come alive when they are sung and played by true artists.

Memories of this CD’s recording sessions in Nashville include:
1. Jack Greene recording “Bethlehem” while wearing a “Jesus” pin on his shirt.
2. Stu Phillips singing “Flowers Bloom” so beautifully while that great steel guitar lead break took over and created its own crescendo that lifted me out of my chair.
3. Jimmy C. Newman performing “He Called My Name” with that great Cajun soul.
4. Jeannie C. Riley singing “I See That Lonely Cross” while crying real tears.
5. Tommy Cash performing “Hold On To My Hand” while showing pictures of his dogs during the breaks.
6. Justin Tubb singing “Jesus, Do You Really Care?” with great expression then inviting me to be interviewed by him on his radio show after the Grand Ole Op’ry.
7. Michele Bishop practicing “Make A Joyful Noise” by singing it at the top of her voice from her hotel room balcony.
8. Ernie Ashworth being truly excited about singing a country wedding song that he thought could be a hit, and that he felt was missing from Country Music.

So, it is with great pleasure that Marshall Clary now introduces his “Nashville Sings Christian Country” CD to an expanded audience who have not heard it before.

This CD is the real thing. Get it. Play it. You’ll enjoy it.
