His first jazz piano solo album, Jazzicale, was released in 2008. Wayne is a product of the rich cultural and musical milieu of South Florida. Direct exposure in his early years with latin and jazz greats such as Ramon Lopez, Nat Adderly, Al Hirt, Marcus Roberts, and John Lamb influenced Wayne’s unique blended approach to improvisation. In 2004, Wayne accepted a faculty post in the music department at Radford University (VA), providing him with more opportunities for performance, conducting, and music education projects.
He currently resides in Roanoke, Virginia and maintains a busy performance schedule as a keyboard artist, conductor, and music educator.
Jazzicale is an effort to infuse the artistic ideal of Jazz improvisation – music created in the moment by the performer – into works that are rooted in the traditional classical artistic ideal – music that is precreated by the composer. For the listener of “classical” music, these recordings may serve as a bridge into the world of Jazz piano performance.
