Hip Hop for Tyler Webb, AKA OneWerd, officially began somewhere late in his high school career. A visit to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, with their current exhibit on the artwork of legendary SF Graff writer TWIST, keyed Werd into the notion that there was something unusual happening on the streets of his neighboring metropolis. Though music didn’t come into Werd’s reality for another year or two, when it did, a fire was caught that’s still burning today. Wu-Tang Clan, Living Legends, Quannum Projects…..these were some of the first names that christened Werd into the world of Hip Hop, underground and otherwise. Being a “late bloomer” in the world of Hip Hop (many of his counterparts had long been enthusiasts, schooled on the likes of Nas, LL Cool J and Rakim), Werd tended to stray from the more traditional schools of style both in his listening tastes and his own creative processes. Having crammed his brain and heart full of CD’s from Anticon, Aesop Rock, Busdriver and Atmosphere, he hit the SF open mic scene with a pad in his pocket and a rhyme in his eyes….fast forward through college years, broken and mended friendships, supergroups formed, broken, re-formed and broken again….fast-forward through loves lost, four-tracktapes, MPC 2000 beats, and 3-day song making benders….fast forward through life-style changes, family reunions and faith found….fast forward to today. Currently producing, mixing, writing and recording all his own music, OneWerd’s first release “Basement Futuristik” is a tribute to all it’s taken for him to become the musician he is now. Blood, sweat and persistence, hope through dark times, and faith that it’s about more than just him. Cop the CD today and find out for yourself. Peace.
