Details:
Greg West, born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, drew influence and inspiration from a wide variety of musical genres. His parents, both longtime fans of country music, were also just as at home listening to early folk artists as well as rock and roll. Born in 1972, Greg was always within earshot of artists such as Gordon Lightfoot, Jesse Winchester, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Bob Seger, The Eagles, Foghat, Molly Hatchet, The Allman Brothers, as well as country artists like George Jones, Barbara Mandrell, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton and even the folkie turned Caribbean troubadour Jimmy Buffett.
As Greg grew through his teen years in the eighties he became a fan of hard rock and heavy metal and of course, the electric guitar. He received his first guitar at the age of fifteen and has been playing ever since. He has played throughout the metro Atlanta area with various local bands such as Serpentine Waltz, Stone Motherless, Fat Cat and Slangbanger opening for bands like Shootyz Groove and Incubus. He has also traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark to play with friend and fellow musician Niels Feldbaek.
Twenty years later Greg has gone back to his more mellow roots and has focused on becoming a credible singer/songwriter, his songs a reflection of his varied musical tastes and influences. Now living in Tampa, Florida, he has recently traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to work with long-time friend and musician Robin Dean Salmon and has just completed his second album, 7th Avenue, released in March of 2008. 7th Avenue is a mixture of songs both old and new but one thing that remains constant is the ability Greg has to tell a story that anyone can relate to and write melodies that everyone will want to sing along to. 7th Avenue definitely marks the beginning of beautiful things to come.
