Details:
GroundFloor is an Icelandic band formed in 2003. Although all the members come from different small villages of the country, it has always been a "Reykjavik" band. The roots of the members can easily be the cause for the meloncolly overtone of the compositions, but it all comes great together. The closeness between the two main member in Groundfloor, the guitarist/singer Ólafur Tómas Gudbjartsson and the upright bassist Haraldur Aegir can clearly be heard in these recordings, due to their mutual interest in acoustic music and coming from the same northern village. The drummer, Thorbjörn Thor was the next one to become a steady working member in 2004, also from the northern seaside town of Blönduós. In that same year the band recorded in Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavik, what was to become the first full studio album, Bones. In the mean time members came and went but the original trio did not change. Now the band often performes with a trumpet/flugel horn player Jon Óskar and a backup vocalist Harpa Thorvaldsdottir and have also worked with a brass quartet and cellists. Their live performances are said to be something to seek out and will not be easily forgotten. In the middle of the year 2006 members moved to different countries in Europe and the band went to rest, but every time they come together in Iceland they perform and make new music. In the spring of 2008 they finished up their first 10 track cd, BONES.
