Hello! I''m David McCray. I grew up in surburban Chicago, got my Bachelor''s in Music at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. I played in bands out of Iowa City from 1989 until 1997, including Friends of Gideon, Captain Barney, and Dagobah. We played dates in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. Then there was the Mardi Gras partying Nick''s Magical Revue for the annual parties at the Deadwood Saloon back in Iowa City. I''ve earned a Le Cordon Bleu diploma in culinary arts from Western Culinary Institute, in Portland, Oregon. I cooked, baked, and played with various bands during my five year stay in Alaska, where there is a surprising wealth of talent. Up north I played on The Photon Band''s debut CD, and teamed up with Sticky Wicket, playing bars and festivals all across Alaska, always taking every opportunity to sit in with any band that came through town. In 2003 I started to record my own music my own way at home with my computer and as many instruments as I could learn how to play. My main instrument growing up was the alto saxophone, and I was raised by my parents on big band swing, American folk music, and the classics. I developed a taste for blues especially, soul, R&B, bebop, funk, and other styles on my own. I currently attend Northern Illinois University in hopes of earning my Master''s degree in jazz arranging. Since high school I have played guitar and piano, and write, arrange, perform, engineer, and produce all of the music on "Prospect St.", except for "The Old Man", which was written, performed (with additions from me), and recorded by Perry Blakely, a good friend of mine from Captain Barney days, at his home studio in Seattle. I continue to write and record, not willing to fit conveniently into any single genre, and there will be more CD''s on CDBaby soon! Thanks! Enjoy!
