Bio:
Danny Bowens started playing the bass while attending Lincoln University in Philadelphia, PA. His roommate and first bass instructor was Burt Jones, guitarist with the original Saturday Night Live Band. While at Lincoln, Danny met Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson and joined their band, The Midnight Band, in 1972. He toured the United States and Europe and recorded with band from 1972 to 1978. The band played on the Saturday Night Live show hosted by Richard Pryor in 1975. Stevie Wonder sat in with the band during a show at the Roxy in California. After leaving the band, Danny got a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music. In order to spend time with his family, he did Berkleeās correspondence course in arranging instead of attending the college. Danny started doing gigs in the DC area in 1979 and studying with bassist Marshall Hawkins. He also played with Charlie Rouse, Kenny Barron, Esther Phillips during this time. From 1983 to 1997, he played in the house band at the Channel Inn Hotel in Washington, DC and was the band leader from 1987 to 1997. From 1987 to the present, has been playing with a band called Marquis in the DC area. Danny formed iamu Records in 2008 to release Fathers Day and his other works to come.
