Whosoever made this world
Must be really pissed
To witness her / his work
So battered and dismissed
The angry red-slashed "Y" changes "Our" to "Your." You couldn''t blame her / him for washing her / his hands of the whole human enterprise.
The title song in this compilation comes from the UN''s Earth Summit in 1992. I was preparing a PopSci story on "clean coal," the oxymoronic name given a host of new technologies.
To find the world picture I interviewed the executive director of the Earth Summit. He said, "The cold war is over. The coal wars are just beginning."
With that concept in my mind I talked to many NGO championing their causes, many of which are still seeking relief. It all came together in the lyrics for "Our Last Best Chance," taken from the UN''s motto for world peace.
And coal remains the chief propagator of world unrest. For this, visit the CD Co2al Train to Amos.
The anthem quality music was supplied by John McDowell, leader of Mamma Tongue, who I found performing in one of the great halls.
The mix of messages is still valid today, 16 years later.
The rest of the songs is a collection of major to minor irritants of our modern world. Save one: "CO2 Blue." This song goes to the heart of the problem called Global Warming. It was written for a petroleum industry musical but I had to break it free and give it life. It''s too important.
The others pretty much speak for themselves.
