Bio:
Palmyra is an indie-pop group based in Brooklyn, NY and fronted by singer/songwriter Gina Pensiero (of Umberto, The Dumb and Ugly Club). Palmyra features Sean Lango, Jon Lango, Karl Sturk and Kenny Roebuck. The music is extremely eclectic and varied, while maintaing pop hooks and sensibilties. Elements of indie, pop, noise folk, twee, folk, rock and roll and riotgrrl interweave to form a rich tapestry of sound.
Four of the five members of Palmyra met in the same small town elementary school as children under the age of 10. While they didn''t begin formally playing music together (outside of school band) until teenage years and didn''t officially form Palmyra until 2007, Pensiero, Roebuck and Brothers Lango have a long history of creativity together. This is not to discount the electric contributions Michigan-native Karl Sturk, who has garnered the internal nickname of "Fresh New Rock N'' Roll Feeling."
Pensiero began playing music seriously with Lango, Lango and Roebuck upon her return to the tri-state area from Ann Arbor, MI in 2006 . While rehearsing new material, she invited Sturk to join. In 2007, Palmyra was formed.
Gina Pensiero is a singer-songwriter whose other projects include Umberto and the Dumb and Ugly Club. Songs range from heartwrenching testimonial singer-songwriterish anthems to smart and snappy power pop tunes. Always original, the music finds roots in indie rock, riot-girl, pop and folk.
Sean and Jon Lango have musical backgrounds rooted in Jazz and theory. They are both involved in multiple New York City/North Jersey experimental jazz projects.
Karl Sturk is a guitarist and singer-songwriter whose previous groups include The Ambitious Brothers, The All Night Push and Dropjaw.
Kenny Roebuck adds his beautiful voice and smooth trumpet sounds to Palmyra.
Palmyra brings a lot of love to songs in the studio and a lot of fun to the stage. They have become known for their original work as well as eclectic covers ranging from Paula Abdul''s "Straight Up" to Lil Kim''s "Shut Up, Bitch."
Mis-En-Scene is Palmyra''s first album. It was released in June 2008, at Flux Factory in NYC.
