What started as a routine experiment has turned into a revolutionary project, henceforth known as The Hickory Project. The band features hard-driving original bluegrass and new acoustic music with the expert licks of Anthony Hannigan on mandolin, Sue Cunningham on fiddle, David Cavage on banjo, Danny Shipe on guitar, and Steve Belcher on bass.
Veteran musicians and champions on the mandolin and fiddle, respectively, Anthony Hannigan and Sue Cunningham founded the Hickory Project five years ago to present new music the two were working on at the time. They enlisted the help of Steve Belcher on bass and the three convinced singer/songwriter Dan Shipe and banjo phenomenon David Cavage, long time friends and former band mates, to round out the band''s membership.
Hickory Project is known for their "Striking instrumental skills, crisp, effective singing, and a bushel basket of good original songs". Exciting from the very first note, Hickory Project''s Travelin'' On features a broad range of the band''s eclectic mix of original material ranging from straight-forward hard-driving bluegrass to lyric ballads to jam-based tunes.
Hickory Project has entertained audiences literally around the globe. In the last two years, their international appearances have included two tours of Australia, two tours of Ireland, performances in Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark. In the US, they''ve performed for large audiences from Maine to Colorado. Most recently, they were featured artists at this year''s European World of Bluegrass in the Netherlands, and will complete their third tour of Ireland in August 2005.
