Chingalera swings for the fences with their sophomore release full-length album Dose.
Dose is the follow-up to 2007''s In The Shadow Of The Black Palm Tree, the progressive metal debut by the band engineered by Chicago-based studio icon Steve Albini. Produced by Sylvia Massy and recorded in the infamously haunted Weed Palace Theater deep in the woods of Northern California, Dose is another Analog testament from Chingalera to the days of lengthy album tracks and the prolific musicianship of the 70''s. Dose is a heavy dredge of thick, moody musicscape full of mysterious sounds with malevolent bursts of aggression. The opening track, "The Endless Bummer", is a freight train of emotion that leads the listener right into "You Were Happy When You Came In Here", a sixteen plus minute ghostly track reminiscent of a Pink Floyd: Live From Pompeii mind trip. From the hard driving track "Eveler", a homage to the late Evel Knievel, to the pounding house dubs of "Fake Maria", Dose is a triumphant expression of Chingalera artistry. If that isn''t enough for the most hardened underground listener, Chingalera paints a twisted picture with a positive message on the track, "Twenty Three", a massive piece of music that features guest vocals from Circle Jerks singer and Punk legend Keith Morris, Scream/Goatsnake singer Pete Stahl, and It''s Casual singer/guitarist Eddie Solis. Dose is destined to make waves in the metal underground, and with a second record as strong as this one, Chingalera pushes us to the brink of the genre with promise of more to come.
