Born in the Heartland, StreetChoir is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist currently living in Dallas, Texas. Chords of Heart & Soul (2008) is a first release.
The StreetChoir sound is a roux of weaving guitars, piano, organ, woodwinds and musical influences experienced while growing up in small midwestern and southern towns.
On "Chords of Heart & Soul," the messages are simple, how to deal with the trials of the heart and the struggles of the soul. It’s a quest of enlightenment that asks the listener to do more than merely tag along, but to take the journey as well and examine the paths taken and the ones yet to take along the way.
“Mendocino Love,” the album’s first track, conveys to the listener the idea that this quest, this emotional and spiritual journey, can be outside of time and place, while songs such as “Nothing Happening Here” and “There’s a Long Road” are more grounded in the here and now.
While the first five songs of the album chronicle the affairs of the heart, the last five explore the spiritual choices one can make along life’s way. “Daughter of the Evening” the choice between the sacred and the profane, and “3 Trials,” an allegorical retelling of economic, political, and spiritual temptation provide segues into the consequences of those choices. “Chords of Heart & Soul,” the instrumental eponymous track, holds true to its title with a strong piano base, fluid vibe and flute and clarinet accompaniment that allows the listener to transcend the problems and troubles of the day.
