Morton Subotnick’s two string quartets comprise this final disc in the Composers Portrait Series. A Fluttering of Wings was written for the Juilliard String Quartet and is one in a series of pieces for instruments and ghost-box electronics. Echoes from the Silent Call of Girona was composed in 1998 for Southwest Chamber Music and a consortium of other ensembles, and received its world premiere by Southwest Chamber Music at the inaugural public concert in Herbert Zipper Concert at the Colburn School of Performing Arts in downtown Los Angeles.
