First performed at the inaugural concert of Southwest Chamber Music, Anthony Vazzana’s masterpiece Whispers & Chants opens the Composer Portrait Series. This highly evocative setting of a series of poems by Jacob Zeitlin features Phyllis Bryn-Julson with a "subtly voiced instrumental ensemble of alto flute, horn, viola, two percussionists and harp." A tour-de-force for French horn aficionados, Vazzana’s Buccina is perhaps one of the most arresting compositions for horn and piano available.
