COUNTRY: Modern Country, FOLK: Progressive Folk
Details:
Train songs have been around almost as long as the trains themselves. From the "Orange blossom special to "The Rock Island line" writers have been churning out train songs, and the writers of this album are no exception. There are sad "Trainwreck" songs, amusing "Ghost trains" to the Chronoligically correct factual songs.
On this album you will find almost every type of train song there is.
Compiled from our collection of almost 50 songs written by local writers on Merseyside when they began a project of writing train songs we have selected 12 which we hope will satisfy most train lovers. The success of this album would mean a secong series will be published later this year.
The demise of the steam train left many writers seeped in nostalga and by writing about these Great iron horses we hope to keep alive the memory of how things were before the sterile electric trains stole their thunder, for there was nothing so great as to hear the hiss of steam, the whistle blowing in the night and the glow of the firebox when muscle and sweat kept countries supplied with goods and passengers travelled in serene comfort lulled to sleep by the clacketty clack of iron wheels on steel rails as the cross-country express hurtled through the darkness to its destination the following morning. To see the engineer and fireman, soot blackened emerge from the footplate to brew up from the live steam outlet and stand drinking their early morning cuppa. Now the cab is almost clinically sterile in comparison, Oh for the return of the REAL trains that we grew up with and still love dearly.
