About Tributes
Tributes is a personal CD which explores some subject matters that are near and dear to me and as an artist I have an obligation to put them into song. This CD is a beautiful collection of ballads, calypso and reggae flavored songs and I surely hope that you will enjoy listening to it as I enjoyed putting it together. Track one is Dear Dad, a tribute to our Heavenly Father and Creator, Jehovah God. He deserves to be honored first. God says that there is a blessing and a promise of long life attached when we Honor thy Father and Mother. It is also a commandment. Special Fathers and Mothers Day songs which are tracks 3 and 4 further reinforces the need to honor our parents. I do not want to come off as being preachy but there are too many kids today who dishonor and disrespect their parents and they think it’s cool. Please let me assure you that it is NOT cool. In far too many households today, children are like loose cannons and parents are afraid of their kids. Some parents are even physically hurt by their kids and this kind of dysfunction must stop. Speaking from my own personal experience I can tell you that my West Indian mother would rather kill me first than let this kind of thing happen. I beg of you, love your parents. I attend Restoration Temple AOG church in Brooklyn, New York, and I have a tremendous respect and admiration for my Pastor. He is not only my spiritual covering but he wears many ‘hats’ as administrator, counselor, husband, father etc that I marvel at how well he does it all. He is the inspiration behind the song Pastors. One has to be called by God to such an office or one can be overwhelmed by the pressure.
I believe that wives are a special blessing to husbands but far too often they are taken for granted. If you took a survey of ten wives, eight would tell you they wished they had a little more help from their husbands and children. The Bible says he who findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favor of the Lord. To love is a woman’s natural inclination but men must work at it. Husbands, there is no such thing as woman’s work and man’s work, not in today’s household where husband and wife must work in order for the family to survive. So men, it is our duty to help with household chores, be proactive and not wait to be asked or told what to do. Remember, it’s your home too. Be helpful to your wives and she’ll move the world for you because her natural thing is to love. I would not ask you to do what I do not do myself.
Whether or not you agree with the Iraq war is a matter of debate but one thing is fact; our soldiers are over there risking their lives for our safety. Let us all as Americans be supportive of them in whatever way we can. The track Watchmen is an expression of what I feel about our military. I hope that many of them can hear this track. It truly speaks for itself.
The track, A little taller, speaks of what I feel regarding Dr Martin Luther King,Jr, the civil rights movement and all of our freedom fighters, living or dead, who sacrificed so much for the rights we enjoy today. This movement has positively affected not only African Americans but all Americans and the rest of the world. Barak Obama’s victory as America’s first African American Democratic Presidential candidate is a culmination of Dr King’s dream. For all this and for what is to come I believe We All Stand A little Taller. We have come a far ways but we still have a far ways yet to go.
