The trio of POLISH MOSES announces the release of their debut CD “TREE OF US”. With each group member bringing their own voice and distinct musical experiences to this recording, their total sound is much greater than the sum of its parts. Polish Moses has been nourished by their native Brooklyn roots to sonorously reach beyond all borders. Their "quasi" folk sound is a musical cocktail of styles, from urban to acoustic rock, from reggae to soulful blues, which takes the listener on an optimistic journey to somewhere beyond themselves. With lyrics ranging from urbane to witty, and vocals from smooth to raucous, their three part harmonies, thoughtful guitar work, and spirited piano evoke carefree times before maturity went from theory to reality. Their performance venues are as varied as their musical styles; ranging from Arizona’s Grand Canyon Village to NYC’s Greenwich Village, upstate New York Saratoga’s Caffè Lena, West Kortright Center, and Night Eagle Café. Recorded with minimal over-dubbing, this CD truly reflects the sound of Polish Moses as you would hear them at one of their spirit - engaging live shows.
GROUP MEMBERS
Joe Chmielowski, composer, lyricist, guitar, bass. Joe has performed his original compositions from Greenwich Village to Grand Canyon Village, and from Maine through Mexico, with many stops in between. With 5 CD’s to his credit, the scope of Joe''s themes range from empowering social union issues to the often psychotic reality of everyday life. It is a voyage that searches for truth while engaging in fantasy, to which all listeners can relate.
JoAnn Bertone Chmielowski, keyboard, bass, synthesizer, arrangements. With training in classical piano, and currently a jazz pianist for the Al Gallodoro Quartet, JoAnn combines musical improvisations with strong vocal harmonies, taking the group to a higher level. Her performance venues include West Kortright Center, Saratoga’s Caffè Lena, and the Night Eagle, and Cornell-Weill in NYC, as well as live radio performances "Dancing on the Air" with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason and five performances on Northeast Public Radio. She has also recently recorded a radio show for NPR''s "Jazz In Silhouette" at WSKG studios.
Don Ferber, composer, lyricist, guitar, percussion. Don composes both thought provoking and funny in your face songs. He has been a member of the groups Triple Crossers, the Fabulous Pinecones, and of course, the original urban reggae Polish Moses. He brings the group his musical hilarity, spontaneity and soul.
