Details:
“Papa” Robert A. Hill is a guitarist/singer/songwriter from Alameda, California. His music is a blending of several different styles, namely blues (his first love), ‘60s and 70’s pop rock, and English/Irish acoustic folk music. Papa started playing music in the Los Angeles area in the late 1970s through the late 1980s, playing in numerous bands. In 1984, he formed Blackjack Tailor, a hard-blues rock outfit that played throughout the Greater L.A. area and released an album, Rockin The Boat, in 1986. When that band dissolved a year later, he became the lead vocalist for a Ventura-based hard rock band Tomorrow’s Reign. Papa Rah relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1991 and shifted musical styles, playing fiddle and mandolin for English country dancers, morris dancers, and Irish dancers. In 2003, he returned to playing blues and rock, but brought along the perspective of traditional folk music into the mix. In 2005, production began on his second album, Paroxysms Of Apathy, a solo endeavor which was released on his website, https://www.tradebit.com. Rockin The Boat was digitized and re-released in 2008 on https://www.tradebit.com. Currently, Papa Rah has joined forces with Mark Ungar, Kristophe Klover, and Scott Irwin (all three from the Celtic rock band Avalon Rising), to form Axis of Blues. Their debut album is in the planning stages.
