Transition was recorded in about four hours studio time, including time spent reviewing the cuts. Michael, Steve, and Richard came together for this session ready to play, producing an outstanding CD. Ten tunes were recorded, with only two retakes (one of which was to record Green Dolphin Street at a different tempo). Pay special attention to “Crackle Hut”, an underplayed Owen Marshall tune, Wayne Shorter’s “Footprints” and my favorite ballad on the CD “Blame It On My Youth”. An excellent result for Michael’s first non-live release. _ Larry Davis
Thanks to Steve Davis and Richard Drexler for their inspired performances. The Trio had a steady one niter, every Tuesday from Dec 2007 thru Apri 2008 l in Sarasota at the East Village Cabaret. We got close with the music. This trio continually validates and elevates each other’s playing, which has opened up a wondrous flow - new ways to stretch – and spirited musical exploration for which I am truly grateful.
