Green Preservation Society
Jay Averilla together with Richard Qureishi formed GPS in San Francisco in 2002. With Jay as songwriter, guitarist, on drum duties, and with Rich on bass, they wrote and recorded songs that eventually made their self-titled debut album.
From the album''s opening track "Smile", currently gaining college radio airplay, their music is a blend of influences from psychedelic pop bands of the 60''s to 90''s shoegaze. Averilla''s songwriting influences include the Beatles among many. With songs like "Sunflower", "Amsterdam" and "Revolver" evoking the best of dreamy California pop, their sound ranges from jangle pop guitars in the tradition of the Byrds, Big Star and Teenage Fanclub to 60''s and 70''s rock, and to the psychedelic Britpop of Ride and the Stone Roses.
With sonically diverse, inventive and well-crafted songs, GPS define their sound where melody and good songwriting are key. GPS brings it all together making music that is timeless - creating their brand for a new generation of rock music.
Joining recently on drums is Alex Laipenieks (formerly of Overwhelming Colorfast and The Mr.T Experience) as the band plays shows around the San Francisco area
