—No mainstream country star of his generation has shown as much love and respect for bluegrass as this Kentucky-bred legend. This gentle waltz aches with loss, yearning and mourning for a fallen soldier. It’s the centerpiece of a song collection that should be mined by every star in this city. Get a load of the supporting cast: Glen Duncan, The Isaacs, Jimmy Martin, Don Rigsby, Earl Scruggs and Randy Kohrs, for starters. Titled Tom T. Hall Sings Miss Dixie & Tom T, the CD was recorded at Miss Dixie’s request as his Christmas present to her. “Claim retirement all you want,” she scolds him in the liner notes, “but the music won’t leave you alone. And neither will I.” ---Bob Oermann 12/10/07 MUSIC ROW
Press Release
Advance singles are currently in the air en-route to Bluegrass programmers who soon in turn will have them on the air…everywhere.
July 3rd is the official release date of the new Blue Circle Records c.d. TOM T. HALL SINGS MISS DIXIE & TOM T.
The announcement comes as an exciting surprise to the world wide base of Hall’s fans who have long awaited this “overdue jewel.” And...it was a surprise for Miss Dixie when the idea was first presented to her by Tom T. as a Christmas gift. “ To Miss Dixie” it read “this is good for a c.d.” the card promised. “We’ll record in our studio; you choose the songs and the pickers. You produce and I’ll do songs we have written together. Local and Pal will handle (canine) security. We will call the project TOM T. HALL SINGS MISS DIXIE & TOM T. Merry Christmas! Love, T.”
Thus began the sequence of ideas and effort leading to the July 3rd, 2007 street date for Blue Circle Records 012.
The Halls, being fans of “live acoustic” recording with warmth and “feel”, the Fox Hollow sessions were done in three days with by far the larger majority of musicians present and picking at the same time. Only the ever busy Isaacs, Earl Scruggs, Josh Williams and Don Rigsby were added later. Jimmy Martin already had his LIFE STORY number “in the can” shortly before he passed away. It was an outstanding and endearing live cut in which the “King” drew on his amazing reserve of legendary strength.
On their songwriting efforts the Halls unhesitatingly point out A HERO IN HARLAN which is not a war protest song but about a young man from Harlan, Kentucky. He went through life pretty much as a failure until after being turned down for a job in the coal mine he joined the army only to be shipped home in a long silver casket. Now he’ll be a hero in Harlan...this week.

Hall (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Kristin Scott Benson (banjo), Wayne Benson (mandolin), Robert Bowlin (rhythm guitar, pickin’ dobro), Rebecca Isaacs Bowman (background vocals) , Mike Bub (bass), Glen Duncan (fiddle), Terry Eldrege (rhythm guitar, fried chicken), Ben Isaacs (bass), Sonya Isaacs (background vocals), Randy Kohrs (resonator guitar), Jimmy Martin (Yodel, G-run guitar), Don Rigsby (background vocals), Earl Scruggs (banjo), Josh Williams (background vocals), Tim White (banjo)
