Details:
Greg is a marketing consultant, composer, and now a translator of cat poems. When Greg noticed his moody cat seemed to be a lot like him, he figured the cat was also a writer at heart. So Greg grabbed a yellow tablet to sketch out what he thought the cat might be thinking about him. One poem and then another appeared. Greg read them to friends, then to a coffee house audience, and later to a church fund-raising talent show. The explanation for the poems was that they appeared as paw-scratching in the exposed dirt flats of the backyard play area.
The positive responses to these first translations prompted Greg to “discover” more poems. Eventually, the collection was complete and circulated among friends.
Then, at the urging of singer/songwriter John Paul Walters, Greg went into the studio to begin recording the poems for an audio book. Additional poems emerged as the cat became the center of a fictional story about the family that adopted him, with the narrator being the father for whom the cat had little regard.
After a pit bull ripped into Whispurr’s shoulder, and Whispurr felt the family’s compassion and care, the cat fell in love with its family – and even managed some respect for the dad. Sure, he had to run away after baby Walt was born. But he soon returned home, hungry.
The four-chapter story of Whispurr ends with a bonus track of his hard-earned philosophy of dealing with the difficult experiences of life. Whispurr''s spells out his mantra in his witty rap, “Leave It in the Litterbox.”
