Jim started playing the banjo at age 13. He was a founding member of the group Cedar Hill and was only 15 years old when he recorded their first record. In 1976 he joined the Calton Family Band in Silver Dollar City and recorded the album “Something Old and Something New.” He later rejoined Cedar Hill to record “Cedar Hill Express.” After taking an extended leave from the music business, he began playing again in 2003 with Stateline Bluegrass. Jim now owns Palm Recording Studio in Rogers, AR, where he uses his engineering skills to provide a variety of recording services to artists and musicians. Jim’s talent on the banjo has been compared to the likes of Carl Jackson and Bela Fleck, however his ease of playing and rock solid melodic picking is a gift all his own. His banjo style plays an integral part in Natural State.
