Playing on the under card for a band of 12-year-old rockers is an unlikely beginning for an aspiring three-piece. But Scarette Baccini and Josh Moult, who had just started writing songs together, were quick to take up the offer in September 2006 for their debut gig at Revolver Upstairs in Melbourne.
Josh invited galpal Danny Cox to add another element to their line-up for the gig, and after four days of desperate rehearsal and song writing – and several mildly unproductive Nintendo overdoses – the newly formed trio left the Revolver audience impressed and intrigued. Two Cent Sideshow was formed.
The band is: Scarlette on vocals, Josh on keys, and Danny on guitar and bass. All three contribute to the creation of synthetic beats and atmospheric sounds, using everything from bread bags to leaking taps, and synthesizers. The music is ecclectic and emotionally charged, with steady grooves, heart-felt melodies and raw roaring energy. Some of their most recognizable influences are Bjork, Portishead and Radiohead, but there is something else more difficult to describe that makes the music unique.
After their frantic formation, Two Cent Sideshow spent most of 2007 writing and recording a self-titled debut EP.
Their seven-track EP was recorded in both a home and professional studio and released in October 2007, mastered by JT at Debasement Studios.
The recent addition of drummer Corey Mollison has added the final dimention to the group, and now the band is putting their tunes out there to be listened to with open minds and ears (we hope).
