AA''s new album, ‘The Exodus Is Here’, might embrace and rely on today''s means and technology, but it’s almost completely influenced by a longing for records made nearly 40 years ago.
It features opinionated lyrical content, some long and improvised guitar solos, instrumental breaks that take the songs to new directions – and generally employs a raw energy and an experimental spirit, that tries different ideas in every song, while maintaining a fairly consistent style.
Inspired by 7-song albums from 1968-1974, such as: Pink Floyd / A Saucerful of Secrets; Neil Young / Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere; The Stooges / Fun House; Deep Purple / Machine Head; Funkadelic / Maggot Brain; Serge Gainsbourg / Histoire De Melody Nelson; and Scorpions / Fly To The Rainbow - ‘The Exodus Is Here’ doesn’t try to sound like any of them but rather emulate what they all seem to share. That is; a sense of adventure, less than 40 minutes of music, and a steady balance between short concentrated songs and long ones that feature extended jams.
As the title might suggest, the album also loosely represents a journey. Titled after a line from ‘Baba O’Reilly’ by The Who – it might be a bumpy ride at times, but then again what Exodus is achieved without an element of hardship?
