WHAT DOES SOUL CITY MAGIC MEAN?
Soul represents the inner spiritual feeling and our own influences.
The city represents the part of New York that gave me my influence, which is the Bronx.
The magic represents our own artistic creations and contribution, and the things that inner city people do that make us unique.
The Bronx has always proven to be the biggest birthplace for the New York urban arts. But even with the countless lack of resources to learn art technically, that never stops the boogie-down Bronx people from being creative - because it is within our nature and tradition to turn nothing into something and create new art forms, and give them new meaning and their own techniques, like scratching and mixing on two turn tables, looping drum patterns on samplers, and playing buckets with sticks instead of drums, and the human beat box, and many more. Each person that created something new from the soul gave the hood their own personal magic. That''s why I call the Bronx Soul City.
My magic has always been the multi-talent fusion of the Bronx and Broadway arts, whereas the hip hop DJ and MC and the poplocker, the soul singer and the band, the hip hop and soul producer, the street and theater stage designer is all one person. And now with 4 years of preparation and training, I am finally able to physically and visually display every art in the form of a mind blowing live show called Soul City Magic. And my latest Bronx art is a drum computer that should be programmed and played by hand - I play it live with my feet, giving it the new name the “A Drums,” combined with playing the keys and singing or rapping all at the same time, in a way that has never been done before.
