Jan 1, 2005 update -- this CD is holding up a lot better than I expected, thanks mainly to the amazing musicians and the great vibe we had in the studio.
Serious fun.
The first song is a skaghetti Western about a killer cat -- or is it a damaged lover? -- with terrific solos by trombonist Josh Roseman and clarinetist Scotty Wotty Shetler while the second takes a slightly le jazz hot, Heidi Heidi Heidi Ho tone in offering all you Betty Boops out there advice -- "Get Lucky" -- and a soundtrack for your lives.
The third song draws an impenetrable parallel between child molesting and imperialism -- what if James Bond were actually an American? -- and the fourth is a simple Boodhistic meditation on life and loss and cosmic consolations. So there.
There''s a stomping roadhouse sax solo by Peter Apfelbaum on the fifth song, memories of underdevelopment in the sixth, and much more. The title tune is a true account of my experiences as a long-time journalist in everybody''s favorite city, as told by a shaggy dog.
Enjoy.
