Two years ago, the only place Beau Young could be heard playing the guitar and singing songs was on a rooftop in the heart of Fallujah, Iraq. As a United States Marine, Beau was deployed with Tow Platoon 23d Marines out of Lafayette, LA, to serve in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in one of the most hostile cities in the Middle East. In between little sleep and many patrols, you could always find him writing songs and entertaining his brothers in arms with his guitar.
Before Iraq, the only shows Beau Young had ever played, were for close friends after the barbeque had been eaten and a few beers had been drank. When he returned home in 2005, he decided to follow the advice of his Marine buddies and pursue a music career. He performed his first live show in January of 2006 with a great response from his hometown crowd, and started recording his first all original album a few months later.
After a year and half of writing, recording, and much anticipation from his Louisiana fans, his Debut CD “Life Lessons” was finally released last month. His first single, “Flip Flops and a Tan” has been playing on Louisiana country radio and he is continually playing shows around South Louisiana with hopes of expanding into Texas and other surrounding states within the coming year.
His country music background mixed with his Southern roots, can be labeled as a type of Southern Americana music with just a hint of Jimmy Buffet flair. From his heartfelt ballads such as “A Cold Night in December”, a story of a young Marine who lost his life overseas, to the energetic crowd favorite, “Country Boys Be Pimps”, his Debut CD is well worth every cent.
