VOCALIST Sue Giles TO release 2nd CD, “TRAV’LIN”,
at Cape May Jazz Festival Performance
on April 18, 2008
Kicks Off 2008 Europe / Japan Tour

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Trenton, NJ, March 20, 2008: Jazz vocal artist Sue Giles hits the road with plans to promote her second CD release, “TRAV’LIN”, at her debut performance at the Cape May Jazz Festival – The Next Wave on Friday, April 18, 2008. Ms. Giles will perform two shows for the opening night of the Cape May, NJ festival at Aleathea’s Restaurant at the Inn at Cape May, with evening shows at 8:30 and 11:00 p.m.

“TRAV’LIN”, which was recorded live this year during two performance dates at the Salt Creek Grille restaurant in Princeton, NJ, marks her second independent release via the gilesJazz label, and features performances by pianist Art Hirahara and bassist Jason Fraticelli. The official CD release date is April 15, 2008.

Ms. Giles, a vocalist on the New York jazz scene for several years, has been described as an emerging vocalist with a performance style representing both the old and new, reminiscent of the performance styles of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. In addition to her work as a vocalist, she continues to hold a full-time position in executive management and also works part-time as the School Director for the Trenton Community Music School. She is also the founder and president of gilesJazz, a management, booking, and recording entity that serves emerging jazz artists via barter exchange and works to provide greater opportunities for accessible and affordable performances to support and cultivate jazz exposure to new audiences and age groups in the U.S.

“The concept of ‘TRAV''LIN’ was ideal – it captures the spirit of these recording dates and sets the ball rolling. After Cape May, I head to Montenegro the next day for a festival honoring Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday. From there we head to Osaka, Japan, for a series of dates, including the Takatsuki Jazz Festival on May 4 and 5. The travel theme also holds significance because Art, Jason, and I are musically traveling with each other. All of the arrangements were done in live performance – the dynamics, beginnings, endings, everything. Juggling the day job is rough but it keeps me humble- it’s a gift to enjoy any facet of a music career. I often do the crazy mad dash from one place to the next, often arriving with no idea what songs to perform, how to start, or where we’ll end up. These recordings are special to me because we three were all ears, sans rehearsals or rules – this, for me, is the essence of any great jazz gig. Both Art and Jason are such wonderful, tremendous, sensitive musicians, amazing to experience and to listen to. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to capture it live; and grateful to my employers for their support of my pursuit of jazz.”

Ms. Giles’ performance on Friday, April 18, at the Cape May festival will feature John Chin (piano), Ray Parker (bass), Dan Monaghan (drums), and the debut performance of Dave Pollack (alto/tenor sax/flute) and Tom Zmuda (alto/tenor sax). Her CD will be available for purchase at the festival, via https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, iTunes, and her website at https://www.tradebit.com.
